Have you seen the movie Slum Dog Millionaire yet? If not, I would recommend that you make a point to see it soon. If you have, your heart was undoubtedly stirred, and possibly broken, as was mine.
Jamal and Latika stole my heart as they somehow maintain a sense of personal worth and conscience. But, quite frankly, it was Salim’s story that made the most poignant reminder of the eternal impact of human trafficking and abject poverty on the souls of children. The movie isn’t perfect, but it’s great because it forces us to see, feel, care, and, for most everyone in the audience, cry!
This morning I read this passage from Exodus 2:24-25, shown here in the Amplified version, and I thought of Slum Dog Millionaire and the countless children its story represents:
And God heard their sighing and groaning and [earnestly] remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
God saw the Israelites and took knowledge of them and concerned Himself about them [knowing all, understanding, remembering all].
Isn’t it just like our God . . . He hears, remembers, sees, and knows about our plight and the plight of desperate little orphans, street children, and girls (women, too) sold into slavery. And don’t you just love the fact that God concerns Himself about them? That is the part that rocks for me! When my life is falling apart, and my situation (or that of those I love) is spinning out of control, I need to know that God concerns Himself with us and our “out of control” lives.
Maybe your life is spinning out of control today. Pray, give it to the God who hears, sees, and knows . . . the One who concerns Himself with you.
Maybe your life is in perfect control (ha! I don’t know anyone like that, do you?) and this conversation doesn’t concern you. But one thing is clear—the care of women and children is the concern of anyone who names the name of Christ. We’d love to partner with you as we serve the least-served in Asia, Africa and beyond. For more information on how we serve women and children like Jamal, Salim and Latika, and their families, email us for a copy of our Women and Children’s proposal. Your donation, regardless of its size or frequency, is a reminder to needy women and children that our God hears, sees, knows and concerns Himself with them!

Well said, Kim! I too was moved by the children of that movie, and I hope it serves to shed more light on the plight of millions more like them.
Kim - hope to see the movie soon. Don't know if my heart can take it, but God wants us to KNOW so that we can PRAY. Thank you for your heart for the least. TRicia
